Are you a dog lover living in or visiting Phoenix, AZ? You’re in luck, as there are some great Phoenix dog parks you just have to visit.
Sky Harbor Airport
Believe it or not, even the airport in Phoenix has a dog park! At the Sky Harbor International Airport, your furry traveling companions have a place they can get a little exercise after a long flight, take a bathroom break, or get a much-needed drink of water. Just outside Terminal 4, the busiest terminal at Sky Harbor, you’ll find the “Bone Yard.” Located on the west end of the terminal on the baggage claim level, the Bone Yard is a shaded area, open day and night, where your pup can play. There are also water faucets and buckets for hydration, and supplies for cleaning up after he “does his business.” If you’re closer to Terminal 3, don’t worry, there’s actually a second dog park there as well!
PETsMART Dog Park -- Washington Park
The PETsMART dog park is a place your dogs are sure to love. It covers 2.65 acres, with six-foot fencing around the perimeter. There are benches, watering stations, cleanup bags, and plenty of large shade trees. For puppies and smaller dogs, there is a special fenced-off area where they can play.
RJ Dog Park
Formerly known as “Pecos Park,” the RJ Dog Park has over two acres of land for your pets to romp, complete with cleanup bags and watering stations. There is a double-entry gate to keep them safe, and the areas are lit after dark.
Rose Mofford Sports Complex
The Rose Mofford Sports Complex is one of the best dog parks in Phoenix. Totaling over two and a half acres, it has separate areas for large and small dogs as well as watering stations, cleanup bags and benches for sitting while your dogs play. In addition, there are plenty of trees to shade them from the Arizona sun.
If you venture outside the city limits into some of the more suburban areas, you’ll find even more parks worth visiting.
Cosmo Park
The Phoenix metro area boasts several great dog parks. If your dog loves to swim, consider checking out Cosmo Park in Gilbert, named after the town’s first police dog, Cosmo van Blitsaerd. Featuring lighting, perimeter fencing, and an area for timid dogs, it’s one of the best parks in the Greater Phoenix area. One great aspect that sets it apart is the lake where your dog can swim, and dog-wash stations for cleaning up afterward!
Shawnee Park
Some parks in the Phoenix area offer more than just room to run. The Shawnee Park in Chandler, AZ has a fun obstacle course your dog can play on! In addition, Shawnee offers standard dog park amenities such as fencing, double gating, water stations and cleanup bags.
Chaparral Park
For the king of all Phoenix dog parks in terms of sheer size, look no further than Chaparral Park in Fountain Hills. If you have a dog that loves to run, this is the place to be. It’s simply huge, and offers amenities such as drinking fountains for dogs, and benches where you can sit while your furry friends run. There are separate areas for aggressive and timid dogs as well.
Sahuaro Ranch Park
Finally, if you’re in the Surprise, AZ area, there are great parks nearby for you as well! Sahuaro Ranch Park isn’t just a dog park; it’s a full-sized park that offers all kinds of fun outdoor areas for adults and children alike. In addition, they feature a dog area near their softball complex called the “Bark Park.” It’s a spacious area, and features separate fencing for large and small dogs. Make sure when you visit that children under 13 have an adult present.
