Springtime is a great time to be in Arizona. The mild winter chill is gone, and the long hot summer hasn’t yet settled in. Whether you’re staying a while or just passing through and looking for an excuse to stretch your legs, check out these free events in Phoenix for spring, 2012.
March 1 - Second Annual Native Arts Walk
The Scottsdale Arts District, located roughly along the 7000 block of Main Street, is the venue for this 7-9 p.m. celebration of Arizona’s indigenous cultures, held in conjunction with the Hopi Education Endowment Fund and the Heard Museum’s famed weekend Indian Fair. March 3 – Cave Creek Thieves Market
Held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of every month, this is THE place to go if you’re looking for the fun, the funky, or the downright bizarre. The outdoor venue in Cave Creek, just a few miles north of Phoenix, has free parking and free admission. You’ll find antique, retro and funky one-of-a-kind finds, plus hand-crafted and customized items. This ain’t your mama’s flea market!
March 22 - 2012 AAE Arizona Cup
The Ben Avery Shooting Facility on Black Canyon Road will host this world-ranking, U.S. Archery Team qualifier. More than 300 archers from around the world compete, including Olympians, world champions, and local adult and youth archers.
March 24-26 - Annual Arizona Touch of Class Miniature Horse Show
Westworld of Scottsdale will host this exhibition of registered Miniature horses in halter and performance classes, harness driving, obstacle driving, and hunter jumper. Starts at 8 .m.
March 26-27 - Arizona Game & Fish Department Outdoor Expo
Held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, there will be hands-on activities, demonstrations and exhibits on hunting, fishing, recreational shooting, archery, off-highway vehicle (OHV) and watercraft recreation, conservation and wildlife education, camping and other outdoor elements. Saturday 9-5, Sunday 9-4
